UK business electricity prices in 2026 typically range from 22p–30p per kWh for small businesses on standard rates, dropping to 18p–24p per kWh for larger users on negotiated contracts. Your actual rate depends on contract length, usage volume, supplier and whether you have a half-hourly meter. See current UK electricity price per kWh ranges.
Business energy rates change daily because they track wholesale gas and electricity markets. As of April 2026, expect 22p–30p/kWh on electricity and 6p–9p/kWh on gas for SMEs, plus a daily standing charge. We quote against the live supplier rate sheets, so the figure we give you is what you can sign today — not a stale comparison-site estimate.
Yes. Most UK suppliers offer fixed-price business energy contracts of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years. A fixed business energy contract locks your unit rate and standing charge for the full term — so wholesale market spikes don’t hit your bill. Larger users (above ~1 GWh/year) can also access flexible or pass-through products. Compare fixed vs variable tariffs.
Yes — some UK suppliers offer no-standing-charge business electricity and gas tariffs, but the unit rate is higher to compensate. They only save money for very low-usage sites (under ~5 kWh/day on electricity), like seasonal businesses, holiday lets or unmanned units. Above that, a normal tariff with a standing charge is cheaper. Read more on no-standing-charge tariffs.
A Letter of Authority (LOA) is a short signed document that authorises us to request your usage data and obtain quotes from your supplier on your behalf. It does not commit you to switching — it just unlocks accurate, supplier-validated quotes. Standard LOAs last 12 months and can be revoked at any time. Read the full LOA explainer.
The standard business electricity VAT rate is 20%. A reduced 5% rate applies if you qualify — typical cases include businesses using less than 1,000 kWh of electricity (or 4,397 kWh of gas) per month, registered charities, or premises with domestic-style use (care homes, B&Bs). We can flag VAT relief eligibility when we run your quote. See the full VAT-on-business-energy guide.
No. The physical electricity or gas supply is unchanged — only the company billing you changes. There is no engineer visit, no downtime and nothing for you to install. The new supplier handles registration with the meter network and the standard 14-day objection window. Read the 6-step switching guide.
Yes — we quote across British Gas Business, EDF Business, E.ON Next, Octopus Energy for Business, ScottishPower Business and OVO Business, plus 30+ challenger and renewable specialist suppliers. Independents are often 5–15% cheaper than Big Six headline rates for SMEs, while the Big Six can win on multi-site management and credit terms. Compare the Big Six.
If you’re on deemed (out-of-contract) rates, you can leave at any time with as little as 28 days’ notice — and you should. Deemed rates are typically 30–80% above market price. Sign any new fixed contract and the new supplier handles the switch in 4–6 weeks. Read the deemed-contract exit guide.
Yes. We quote both non-half-hourly (NHH) and half-hourly (HH) electricity meters. HH sites — required for any UK business with peak demand above 100 kW — get specialist HH quotes with separate Meter Operator (MOP) and Data Collector (DC) lines. Upload your bill or HH data file and we’ll structure the quote correctly. Read the half-hourly meters guide.
