Your device has to be connected to the ASUS RT-AX88U itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

How do you reset a ASUS RT-AX88U?

- Press and hold the physical Reset button until the power LED starts to flash.
- Hold it for until the power LED flashes.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
ASUS describes the hold as lasting until the power LED begins to flash rather than giving a fixed number of seconds.
A reboot is not a reset. A reboot from the web interface or a power cycle keeps every setting. Only the Reset button clears them.
What if you cannot get into the ASUS RT-AX88U at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
If you have forgotten the login name and password you created, ASUS is explicit that there is no way to retrieve them. A factory reset and a fresh run through the setup wizard is the only route back, and it costs you your entire configuration.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
