Plusnet Hub Two — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Plusnet Hub Two and go to 192.168.1.254.
The password is unique to your unit and printed on it — there is no universal default.
Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.
The Plusnet Hub Two is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from Plusnet, in UK use Plusnet's current hub. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Plusnet Hub Two gateway address?
The Plusnet Hub Two settings page is at 192.168.1.254. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
Your device has to be connected to the Plusnet Hub Two itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
Plusnet gives this on the Hub Two user guide and both setup guides, and calls the interface the Hub Manager. It is not 192.168.1.1.
What is the default username and password for the Plusnet Hub Two?
Unique password on the device label
There is no default password for the Plusnet Hub Two that we could publish, because every unit has a different one.
Where to find yours. On the back of the hub, on a settings card that slots out, and on the separate password sticker Plusnet sends with it.
The card carries a QR code you can scan with a phone camera rather than typing the Wi-Fi key by hand. The admin password is specific to your unit, so there is no shared default to publish. It is a different thing from the Wi-Fi key: Plusnet's own instructions for changing your Wi-Fi settings have you enter the admin password first.
If a website offers you a single password that works on every Plusnet Hub Two, it is wrong. Those lists copy a per-device password from one unit and republish it as though it were universal.
What do the lights on the Plusnet Hub Two mean?
Here is what each light on the Plusnet Hub Two is telling you, and what to do about it.
| Light | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Statussolid blue | The hub is connected to your broadband. | If you cannot get online, try switching your device off and on. On a first connection give it a minute or two. |
| Statusoff | The power is off, or the lights have been turned off in the Hub Manager. | Check the hub is plugged in and switched on, and that the lights have not simply been disabled in software. |
| Statussolid green | The hub is starting up. | Allow about three minutes for it to turn blue. If it stays green, switch it off and on, and reset it if that does not help. |
| Statusflashing orange | On a phone-line service this means the hub is working but cannot detect a broadband signal. On full fibre it means the Ethernet cable is not connected. | On DSL, check the grey-ended broadband cable and any filter. On full fibre, check the red-ended Ethernet cable into the ONT, and if the ONT has more than one port try each one. |
| Statussolid orange | The hub is working but is not connected to the internet. On DSL Plusnet adds that it is receiving a broadband signal. | Connect a device, open a browser and follow the on-screen steps. If that fails, factory reset the hub. |
| Statussolid red | There is a problem somewhere. | Power the hub off and on. If the light does not turn blue, factory reset it. |
| Statussolid pink | The hub is in bridge mode, running as a modem only and not sharing Wi-Fi. | If you did not mean to do this, disable bridge mode in the Hub Manager or factory reset. On full fibre, Plusnet states that bridge mode is not supported at all. |
| WPSflashing blue | The hub is waiting for you to press WPS on the device you are pairing. | Press WPS on the other device. |
| WPSflashing red | The WPS pairing attempt did not connect. | Wait a couple of minutes and try again. |
Plusnet publishes two versions of this table, one for phone-line services and one for full fibre, and two rows genuinely differ between them. Both are reflected above rather than merged, because the flashing orange row in particular sends you to a completely different cable depending on which service you have.
How do you reset a Plusnet Hub Two?
What you lose. Restores the hub completely to the settings it had when it arrived, so any change you made has to be made again.
- Press the reset pinhole button on the back with a paperclip, pen or something pointed.
- Hold it for 20 seconds, releasing when the front light turns green.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
Plusnet documents both light cues — green while you release, blue when the reset has finished — and adds that on full fibre you should wait five minutes after it powers back up.
A reboot is not a reset. A power cycle keeps your settings. Plusnet documents about three minutes from a cold start before the light turns blue, so give it that long before deciding something is wrong.
What if you cannot get into the Plusnet Hub Two at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
Plusnet publishes no override for a forgotten admin password on the Hub Two. A factory reset is the only route, and it returns the password to the printed value.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
Where this comes from
- Plusnet Hub Two setup guide — fibre with phone — The DSL version of the lights table, including the pink bridge-mode row.
- Plusnet Hub Two setup guide — full fibre — The full fibre version, where flashing orange points at the Ethernet cable and bridge mode is stated to be unsupported.
