UniFi U6+ — settings, status lights and reset
A UniFi access point has no settings address, and looking for one is the most common wrong turn people take with these.
There is no web login at all — everything is done in the app.
Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.
The UniFi U6+ is a wireless access point from Ubiquiti. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the UniFi U6+ gateway address?
A UniFi access point has no settings address, and looking for one is the most common wrong turn people take with these. Ubiquiti's position is that the access point must receive an address from your network, so it appears wherever your DHCP server puts it. There is a number that circulates — 192.168.1.20 — and it is real, but it is a symptom rather than a destination: Ubiquiti calls it the fallback address and says that seeing a device on it means something is wrong with your network configuration, usually that no DHCP server answered. The supported way to find one is the discovery feature in Ubiquiti's WiFiman app. Management itself lives in the UniFi Network application, which needs version 7.3.76 or later for this model, and unifi.ui.com is the remote portal for your consoles and sites rather than a way to reach the access point directly.
What is the default username and password for the UniFi U6+?
App-managed, no web login
The UniFi U6+ has no router password at all, because it has no web login to put one on.
How you get in instead. Through the UniFi Network app on iOS, Android and Web browser.
Two different applications are involved and the distinction trips people up. The UniFi Network application is the controller, and it is what holds your configuration. The UniFi mobile app is the only way to manage an access point you are running standalone with no controller at all, and WiFiman is the discovery tool you use to find a unit whose address you do not know.
There is no web login on this access point to have a password for. Adopted units are administered through the UniFi Network application, and a unit run standalone without a controller is managed from the UniFi mobile app using credentials you create during setup — Ubiquiti is explicit that the web interface is not supported in that mode and that those credentials are separate from your Ubiquiti account. On the question of the defaults you will have seen quoted: Ubiquiti does publish pre-adoption SSH defaults, listing ui and ui for UniFi devices and noting ubnt and ubnt on older ones. What it never does is say which models count as older, and that article names no model at all, so we will not tell you which of the two applies to a U6+. It matters less than it sounds, because SSH is not how these are configured — Ubiquiti recommends against using it outside support-led troubleshooting, and after adoption the credentials become a random string anyway.
Because access follows the account that set the network up rather than a password, the question to answer when you are locked out is which account owns it.
What do the lights on the UniFi U6+ mean?
Here is what each light on the UniFi U6+ is telling you, and what to do about it.

Marked medium confidence for a specific reason worth being straight about. Ubiquiti publishes no LED table for the U6+ individually — the article these come from opens by saying the blue and white status lights apply to all its UniFi access points, routers and switches, and names no models. So this is the manufacturer's own documentation and it does cover this unit, but it is range-wide rather than model-specific, and the U6+ datasheet confirms only that the light is white and blue. Where a vendor publishes a table for one particular model we would rather use that; here there is not one.
How do you reset a UniFi U6+?
What you lose. The access point returns to factory defaults and goes back to a steady white light, ready to be adopted. This costs much less than resetting a router, because a UniFi access point's configuration was never really on the unit: the networks, the Wi-Fi settings and the radio plan live in the controller and are pushed back down when the unit is adopted again.
- Every UniFi device has a reset button. Hold it with the unit powered, and keep it powered throughout — Ubiquiti is specific that interrupting power during the process is a mistake.
- Hold it for 5 to 10 seconds, until the lights show the restore has started.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
Ubiquiti publishes no duration for this specific model, only 5 to 10 seconds depending on the device, so the lights are the signal rather than the clock. Both ways of getting it wrong are documented and worth recognising: too short and the access point simply reboots, and too long and it drops into TFTP recovery mode, which shows as the light cycling white, blue and off. One further detail catches sellers out — Ubiquiti states plainly that the physical reset button does not remove the device from any application it was adopted to, so resetting a unit does not tidy it out of your own controller.
A reboot is not a reset. Power cycling an access point keeps everything, and because the configuration lives in the controller there is very little a reboot can cost you. Cutting PoE to the port and restoring it is a legitimate first step here in a way it is not on a router holding its own configuration.
What if you cannot get into the UniFi U6+ at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
Not in the sense of retrieving a password, but the practical outcome is much better than that sounds. Because the configuration lives in the controller rather than on the access point, resetting the unit costs you almost nothing — and Ubiquiti documents this as the intended route, describing a factory reset as the way to let a managed device be adopted into a new deployment. If you have bought one second-hand and the controller shows it as managed by another network, a factory restore followed by re-adoption is Ubiquiti's own answer, not a workaround.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
