How to Enable WiFi Calling on iPhone

Requirements for WiFi Calling on iPhone

Before you enable WiFi calling, make sure your iPhone meets the following requirements:

  • iPhone model: iPhone 5s or later
  • iOS version: iOS 10.3 or later (iOS 17 or 18 recommended for the best experience)
  • Network: A UK mobile network that supports WiFi calling (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three, or Sky Mobile)
  • WiFi connection: Connected to a working WiFi network

How to Turn On WiFi Calling on iPhone

Follow these three simple steps to enable WiFi calling on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings and tap Phone
  2. Tap WiFi Calling
  3. Toggle on WiFi Calling on This iPhone

You may be prompted to confirm or enter your emergency address. This is an Ofcom requirement — because WiFi calls are routed over the internet, your network needs a registered address to pass to emergency services if you dial 999. Enter your home or office address and tap Save.

How to Know WiFi Calling Is Active

When WiFi calling is enabled and in use, you will see the word “WiFi” next to your carrier name in the status bar at the top of your screen (for example, “EE WiFi” or “Vodafone WiFi”). This confirms your calls are being routed over your WiFi connection.

Prefer WiFi Over Mobile Network

On some networks, you can tell your iPhone to prefer WiFi calling even when mobile signal is available. This is useful if your WiFi connection is more reliable than your mobile signal indoors.

  1. Go to Settings > Mobile Data
  2. Tap WiFi Calling
  3. Toggle on Prefer WiFi

Note that this option is not available on all networks. If you do not see it, your carrier may not support the preference setting.

WiFi Calling with Dual SIM

If your iPhone uses Dual SIM (physical SIM plus eSIM, or two eSIMs), you can enable WiFi calling on both lines independently. Go to Settings > Phone > WiFi Calling and you will see a toggle for each line. This is particularly useful for business users who carry a personal and work SIM in the same device.

Troubleshooting: WiFi Calling Toggle Greyed Out

If the WiFi Calling toggle is greyed out or missing entirely, try the following steps:

  1. Update carrier settings: Go to Settings > General > About. If a carrier settings update is available, you will see a prompt — tap Update.
  2. Restart your iPhone: A simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches that prevent the toggle from appearing.
  3. Check your plan: Some older or SIM-only plans may not include WiFi calling. Contact your network to confirm it is available on your account.
  4. Update iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest version of iOS.
  5. Reset network settings: As a last resort, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase saved WiFi passwords but can fix stubborn connectivity issues.

Still Not Working?

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, your iPhone model may not be supported for WiFi calling on your specific network. Check your network provider's website for a list of compatible handsets, or contact their support team directly.
