Cisco RV340 — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your Cisco RV340 and go to 192.168.1.1.

The documented default login is cisco with the password cisco.

The Cisco RV340 is a firewall router from Cisco, in UK use EOS Oct 2021, support to Oct 2026. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the Cisco RV340 gateway address?

The Cisco RV340 settings page is at 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

Your device has to be connected to the Cisco RV340 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

Over HTTPS. Cisco's default settings table also lists a fallback LAN address, and it is the same 192.168.1.1 — so there is no second address to try. Give it time before you decide it is dead: Cisco says boot is "less than 3 minutes typically" but "may take up to 7 minutes" on a fully configured unit.

What is the default username and password for the Cisco RV340?

Documented fixed default

The manufacturer publishes a single default login for the Cisco RV340, so we can show it:

Cisco documents "the default username cisco and the default password cisco (lowercase)" and notes that passwords are case-sensitive. It is only ever good for one login, though: Cisco forces a change immediately afterwards — "after the Initial Setup Wizard is done configuring the device, you are required to change the default password" — and again after every factory reset. So if cisco/cisco fails on a unit that has been in service, that is the expected outcome rather than a fault.

This only works if nobody has changed it. On a unit that has been in service for a while, someone should have, and if they did then no published default will help you.

What do the lights on the Cisco RV340 mean?

Here is what each light on the Cisco RV340 is telling you, and what to do about it.

Cisco also documents the boot progress pattern: the PWR, LINK/ACT and GIGABIT lights flash progressively across LAN1, then LAN1 and 2, then 1 to 3, then 1 to 4 as the unit passes 25, 50 and 75 per cent of boot.

How do you reset a Cisco RV340?

What you lose. The unit returns to 192.168.1.1 with cisco and cisco, and the whole configuration goes: firewall access rules, DMZ settings, every site-to-site and client VPN tunnel, VLANs and local user accounts. If you choose the "including certificates" option, the installed certificates go too.

  1. A recessed Reset button on the front panel, operated with a paper clip or a pen tip. It does two different things depending on how long you hold it, so the duration matters more than usual here. There is a software equivalent under Administration then Reboot, which offers both "return to factory default settings after reboot" and a version that also clears the installed certificates.
  2. Hold it for Factory reset: 12 to 30 seconds, with Cisco recommending 15 to 25. Under 10 seconds only reboots it, and Cisco suggests 5 or 6 for that..
  3. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

There is a trap for second-hand kit here. Cisco documents that a factory-default unit with a USB stick attached at boot will search that drive for a configuration file matching its product ID and load it — so a reset does not guarantee a clean unit if something is plugged into the USB port.

A reboot is not a reset. A short press of under 10 seconds, or a reboot from the web interface, keeps every setting.

What if you cannot get into the Cisco RV340 at all?

Only by factory reset, and only because there is nothing else — the RV340 has no console port, so there is no out-of-band route to reset the password without wiping the configuration. Separately, Cisco documents a dual-image fallback that is worth knowing about for boot problems rather than password ones: the router holds two firmware images and switches to the inactive one after the active image fails to boot five times. You can force that switch manually by powering the unit off, on, waiting 30 seconds and off again, five times over.

If that does not work, a factory reset will always get you in, at the cost of every setting on the unit.
