Which router uses 192.168.1.1?

192.168.1.1 is not specific to one router. It is used by Cisco, DrayTek, Hyperoptic, Netgate, Peplink, TP-Link, TalkTalk, Teltonika, Ubiquiti, Vodafone and Zyxel, and by plenty of makes we have not covered yet.

That is normal rather than confusing: the address tells you where a device sits on your own network, not what it is. To get the login and the light meanings you need the make and model, which is usually printed on the underside of the unit.

How to tell which one you have

  1. Look at the label on the underside or back of the unit. The model name is almost always printed there, often in smaller type than the brand.
  2. If a provider supplied it, the model usually carries their name — a hub branded for a broadband provider rather than the company that manufactured it.
  3. Open 192.168.1.1 in a browser. Even before logging in, most routers show their model name on the sign-in page.

Is 192.168.1.1 a website?

No, and it is worth being clear about this because the number looks like something you have been sent to. 192.168.1.1 is a private address, which means it only exists inside a local network. Typing it into a browser reaches whatever device holds that address on the network you are currently connected to — normally your own router. Nobody outside your network can reach it, and it cannot be used to identify or track you.

If it does not open anything, you are usually on mobile data or connected to a different network, or you have typed it into a search box rather than the address bar.
