EE Smart Hub — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your EE Smart Hub and go to 192.168.1.254, or eehub.

The password is unique to your unit and printed on it — there is no universal default.

The EE Smart Hub is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from EE, in UK use Wi-Fi 5, model SH20A, from 2021. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the EE Smart Hub gateway address?

The EE Smart Hub settings page is at 192.168.1.254. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

You can also use eehub, which reaches the same page and is easier to remember.

Your device has to be connected to the EE Smart Hub itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

EE calls the interface the Hub Manager and documents the eehub hostname alongside the address in its Smart Hub user guide.

What is the default username and password for the EE Smart Hub?

Unique password on the device label

There is no default password for the EE Smart Hub that we could publish, because every unit has a different one.

Where to find yours. On the pull-out settings card on the back of the hub. The Wi-Fi name and password are on the reverse of the card, and there is a QR code on the inside.

EE states that the Wi-Fi password and the Hub Manager admin password are both printed on this card and that they are different from each other — the Wi-Fi password gets devices online, the admin password lets you change settings. Both are specific to your unit, so we publish no value. Worth knowing that the QR code encodes the Wi-Fi credentials only, so the admin password has to be read off the printed card. EE also says a QR scanner app is needed rather than just the phone camera.

If a website offers you a single password that works on every EE Smart Hub, it is wrong. Those lists copy a per-device password from one unit and republish it as though it were universal.

What do the lights on the EE Smart Hub mean?

Here is what each light on the EE Smart Hub is telling you, and what to do about it.

LightWhat it meansWhat to do
Statussolid blueOn the 2023 hub, blue means connected to broadband. On the 2021 hub the equivalent is aqua — EE publishes two different tables under the same product name.Nothing to do.
Statussolid aquaOn the 2021 hub, aqua means connected to broadband.Nothing to do.
Statusflashing orangeThe hub is connecting to broadband. On the 2021 hub this state is yellow rather than orange.Give it at least three minutes. The light turns blue, or aqua on the 2021 hub, when it is ready.
Statussolid orangeThe hub is not connected to the internet. Yellow on the 2021 hub.Check the broadband cable, then power the hub off and on.
Statusflashing purpleOn the 2023 hub this means the hub is working but is not set up for Full Fibre broadband.Check the cables are connected.
Statusflashing aquaOn the 2021 hub, flashing aqua means the broadband cable is not connected.Check the broadband cable.
Statussolid greenThe hub is starting up.Wait at least three minutes for it to settle.
Statussolid purpleOn the 2023 hub, purple means Connectivity Backup is in use and the hub is running over the mobile network.Nothing to do while your broadband is down. It will switch back automatically.
Statussolid redThere is a problem somewhere.Power the hub off and on, and factory reset it if the light does not clear.
StatusoffThe power is off, or the light has been turned off deliberately.Check the power, then check whether the light was simply disabled — EE confirms this is possible, and on the 2021 hub it is under Hub light control in the Hub Manager.
WPSflashing blueWPS pairing is in progress.Press WPS on the device you are pairing.
WPSflashing redThe WPS attempt did not connect to your device.Wait and try again.

EE publishes two separate light tables under the single name "EE Smart Hub", labelling them 2021 and 2023 in its own hub selector, and the colour for a healthy connection differs between them: aqua on the 2021 unit, blue on the 2023 one. Both are listed above because EE gives no way to tell the two apart from the hardware — you have to match by the colour you can see.

How do you reset a EE Smart Hub?

What you lose. Removes every change you have made, including wireless settings, Guest Wi-Fi, Compatibility Wi-Fi and the LED brightness. The network name and password revert to the card on the back, and any Wi-Fi Extenders have to be paired again.

  1. Press the Reset button on the back. EE documents two versions: five seconds on a standard button, or 20 seconds with a paperclip if yours is a pinhole.
  2. Hold it for 5 seconds, or 20 seconds for a pinhole button, until the light turns green.
  3. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

EE documents the light behaviour too: green during the reset, then aqua or blue once it has finished, which can take up to five minutes.

A reboot is not a reset. A power cycle keeps everything. EE asks for at least three minutes from a cold start before the light settles, and warns that the hub must be kept vertical while running.

What if you cannot get into the EE Smart Hub at all?

We have not confirmed whether this model offers a password recovery route short of a factory reset.
