Google Nest Wifi — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Google Nest Wifi and go to 192.168.86.1.
There is no web login at all — everything is done in the app.
The Google Nest Wifi is a mesh Wi-Fi system from Google, in UK use 2019-present. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Google Nest Wifi gateway address?
The Google Nest Wifi settings page is at 192.168.86.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
Your device has to be connected to the Google Nest Wifi itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
192.168.86.1 is the address Nest Wifi hands out as the default gateway, but visiting it does not give you a settings page. Some hardware revisions show a minimal status page and nothing more. There is no login form at this or any other address on this system, so if you are hunting for one you can stop: the Google Home app is the only way in. We have marked this address medium confidence because Google does not publish it on a support page, only the app-only management model.
What is the default username and password for the Google Nest Wifi?
App-managed, no web login
The Google Nest Wifi has no router password at all, because it has no web login to put one on.
How you get in instead. Through the Google Home app on iOS and Android.
Controls moved out of the older Google Wifi app into the Google Home app. The Google Wifi app is no longer available to download and can now only be used to factory reset devices; setup, network changes and adding members all require Google Home.
There is no router username or password on Nest Wifi. Access is controlled by the Google account that set the network up, through the Google Home app. If you cannot get in, the question is which Google account owns the network, not what the password is. Other people can be added as members of the home rather than being given a shared password.
Because access follows the account that set the network up rather than a password, the question to answer when you are locked out is which account owns it.
What do the lights on the Google Nest Wifi mean?
Here is what each light on the Google Nest Wifi is telling you, and what to do about it.

How do you reset a Google Nest Wifi?
What you lose. Wipes all settings and removes the device from your Google Home. The reset itself can take up to ten minutes, after which the device pulses to show it is ready to be set up again from scratch in the app.
- Press and hold the reset button on the unit — on the bottom of Google Wifi, or near the power port on Nest Wifi — and keep holding while the light changes.
- Hold it for about 12 seconds, until the light turns solid yellow.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
Google documents the light sequence precisely: keep holding past the fast-pulsing yellow warning stage until the light is solid yellow, then let go. Letting go during the pulsing stage cancels the reset.
A reboot is not a reset. Restart a point from the Google Home app rather than pulling its power. A restart keeps your network settings; a factory reset does not.
What if you cannot get into the Google Nest Wifi at all?
Nothing to recover in the usual sense — there is no password. Access follows the Google account, so recovering access means recovering that account or being added to the home by someone who already has access.
If that does not work, a factory reset will always get you in, at the cost of every setting on the unit.
