Google Wifi — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Google Wifi and go to 192.168.86.1.
There is no web login at all — everything is done in the app.
The Google Wifi is a mesh Wi-Fi system from Google, in UK use 2016-2019. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Google Wifi gateway address?
The Google Wifi settings page is at 192.168.86.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
Your device has to be connected to the Google Wifi itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
As with Nest Wifi, this address does not serve a settings page. There is no web login on this system.
What is the default username and password for the Google Wifi?
App-managed, no web login
The Google Wifi has no router password at all, because it has no web login to put one on.
How you get in instead. Through the Google Home app on iOS and Android.
The original Google Wifi app is no longer downloadable and can only factory reset devices. Everything else requires the Google Home app.
No router password exists. Access follows the Google account that owns the network, managed through the Google Home app.
Because access follows the account that set the network up rather than a password, the question to answer when you are locked out is which account owns it.
What do the lights on the Google Wifi mean?
Here is what each light on the Google Wifi is telling you, and what to do about it.

| Statusrapidly flashing yellow | You are holding the reset button and a factory reset is about to happen. | Let go now if you did not mean to reset the device. Keep holding for about 12 seconds if you do. |
| Statussolid yellow | The factory reset is running. | Release the button and leave it alone. This can take up to ten minutes, after which it restarts and pulses to show it is ready for setup. |

How do you reset a Google Wifi?
What you lose. Wipes all settings and removes the device from your Google Home. Requires a full re-setup in the app.
- Press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the unit.
- Hold it for about 12 seconds, until the light turns solid yellow.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
A reboot is not a reset. Restart from the Google Home app rather than pulling power.
What if you cannot get into the Google Wifi at all?
Access follows the Google account, not a password.
If that does not work, a factory reset will always get you in, at the cost of every setting on the unit.
