Ruckus R550 — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Ruckus R550 and go to 192.168.0.1, or unleashed.ruckuswireless.com.
The documented default login is super with the password sp-admin.
Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.
The Ruckus R550 is a wireless access point from Ruckus. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Ruckus R550 gateway address?
The Ruckus R550 settings page is at 192.168.0.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
You can also use unleashed.ruckuswireless.com, which reaches the same page and is easier to remember.
Your device has to be connected to the Ruckus R550 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
Read this address as a fallback rather than the way in. Ruckus documents 192.168.0.1 as the R550's factory default, and a reset will put it back there — but it only answers on that address when there is no DHCP server to give it another one. Ruckus says as much plainly: the access point is a DHCP client by default, so on a normal network with a DHCP server the address is not 192.168.0.1, and you find the real one by looking up the unit's MAC address in your DHCP server's leases. If the access point is running Unleashed instead, ignore addresses altogether — it broadcasts a temporary open network called Configure.Me and you set it up at unleashed.ruckuswireless.com.
What is the default username and password for the Ruckus R550?
Documented fixed default
The manufacturer publishes a single default login for the Ruckus R550, so we can show it:
- Username
super- Password
sp-admin
Ruckus publishes this default itself, in the indoor access point user guide that contains the R550's own hardware documentation, which is the only reason we are willing to repeat it. Two caveats decide whether it is any use to you. Ruckus recommends changing it immediately after the first login and does not force the change, so on a unit that was commissioned properly it will already be different — and on one that was not, you have just found a live security problem rather than a convenience. It also only applies in standalone mode: under Unleashed the setup wizard has you create your own administrator username and password, so there is no default to fall back on. We have found no Ruckus document supporting admin / admin for this model in any mode, despite how often it is quoted.
This only works if nobody has changed it. On a unit that has been in service for a while, someone should have, and if they did then no published default will help you.
What do the lights on the Ruckus R550 mean?
Here is what each light on the Ruckus R550 is telling you, and what to do about it.

These come from the R550's own page in the Ruckus indoor access point user guide, so they are model-specific rather than generalised across the range. One thing we have left out on purpose: the light sequence that confirms a factory reset. A widely quoted Ruckus article describes the access point going solid red and then flashing green during a reset, but that article documents the R510 and R310, and Ruckus publishes no equivalent for the R550. Rather than lend another model's behaviour to this one, we would rather tell you it is unverified.
How do you reset a Ruckus R550?
What you lose. Every configured setting is erased, and the unit returns to its factory address of 192.168.0.1 with the documented default login. If the access point was managed by a controller it will also need adopting again. On an access point this is a much smaller loss than on a router, because the configuration that matters usually lives in the controller and gets pushed back down when the unit rejoins.
- The RST button is recessed in the body of the unit. A quick press and release reboots it; holding it down is what resets it. There is also a CLI route over SSH, using set factory followed by reboot, which is the safer option on a unit mounted in a ceiling.
- Hold it for 10 seconds — see the note, because Ruckus quotes three different figures.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
The hold time is genuinely unclear in Ruckus's own documentation, so here is the whole picture. The R550's own hardware page says six seconds. One support article says eight seconds or more, then tells you to use ten to be certain. Another says ten. A fourth says fifteen to twenty, but that one is written for the R510 and R310 and should not be applied here. Ten seconds satisfies every figure that actually covers this model, which is why we give it. The risk of holding too briefly is not nothing: a short press reboots the unit instead, so you can easily believe you have reset an access point that has simply restarted with all its settings intact.
A reboot is not a reset. A quick press and release of the RST button reboots the unit and keeps every setting. Because that is the same button as the reset, the difference between fixing an access point and wiping it is how long you keep your finger on it.
What if you cannot get into the Ruckus R550 at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
With one exception. If the access point is running Unleashed and whoever set it up filled in the password recovery email address and security question that the setup wizard offers, you can recover through those. In standalone mode there is nothing of the kind: Ruckus documents no recovery route, and if the default has been changed to something nobody knows, the RST button is the only way back in.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
