Vigor 2865 — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Vigor 2865 and go to 192.168.1.1.
The documented default login is admin with the password admin.
Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.
The Vigor 2865 is a combined modem and router from DrayTek, in UK use 2020-present. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Vigor 2865 gateway address?
The Vigor 2865 settings page is at 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
Your device has to be connected to the Vigor 2865 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
DrayTek documents 192.168.1.1 as the default LAN address across the Vigor range. Your computer needs an address in the same 192.168.1.0/24 range, which it will get automatically if it is set to obtain an address via DHCP.
What is the default username and password for the Vigor 2865?

The manufacturer publishes a default login for the Vigor 2865, but it is worth checking the unit before you rely on it:

Check the unit as well. If an internet provider supplied the unit rather than a retailer, look for a sticker on the case: DrayTek's own guidance is that providers sometimes set their own password and print it there. If there is a sticker, the value printed on it wins.
DrayTek publishes this default openly in its own model-by-model table, which is why we are willing to repeat it. Two caveats matter. If the router came from an internet provider rather than a retailer, the provider may have set its own password and put it on a sticker on the unit — check there first. And if the router has been in service for any length of time, whoever commissioned it should have changed this password; if it has been changed, no default will help you.
What do the lights on the Vigor 2865 mean?
Here is what each light on the Vigor 2865 is telling you, and what to do about it.

The ACT behaviours above are confirmed from DrayTek's own reset and recovery documentation. The full panel on this model also carries DSL, WAN, LAN and USB indicators whose individual states are not yet verified against DrayTek's documentation, so they are not listed.
How do you reset a Vigor 2865?
What you lose. Everything is erased: your internet connection settings, firewall rules, port forwarding, VLANs, VPN tunnels, Wi-Fi names and passwords. The router comes back on 192.168.1.1 with the admin and admin login and nothing else configured. Do not do this to a working router unless you have everything you need to build it again.
- Find the small hole labelled RESET on the unit, and press the button inside it with a paperclip or pin. No force is needed. Hold it down and watch the ACT light.
- Hold it for 5 or more seconds, until the ACT light flashes very rapidly.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
The rapid ACT flash is the confirmation that you held the button long enough. This is a documented 5-second hold, nothing like the 30-30-30 routine that circulates online — see our reset guide for why that advice does not apply here.
A reboot is not a reset. A reboot is not a reset. Power-cycling the unit, or using the restart option in the web interface, keeps every setting. Only the RESET button clears the configuration.
What if you cannot get into the Vigor 2865 at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
This is the single most important thing to know about a DrayTek. If the admin password has been changed and nobody knows the new one, it cannot be recovered. DrayTek states plainly that it has no way to retrieve, change or reset your password, remotely or locally, and there is no backdoor or master password. Your only routes are to find whoever set it up, or to factory reset and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a config backup does not help, because the backup contains the same unknown password. The one exception is a router enrolled in VigorACS, DrayTek's central management platform, from which the password can be reset.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
