TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black and go to 192.168.1.1.

The password is unique to your unit and printed on it — there is no universal default.

Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.

Partly verified. TalkTalk documents this hub together with the Sagemcom Wi-Fi Hub for everything except the admin menu paths and the WAN port position. The page says so plainly rather than implying model-specific sourcing it does not have.

The TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from TalkTalk, in UK use Supplied alongside the Wi-Fi Hub. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black gateway address?

The TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black settings page is at 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

Your device has to be connected to the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

Given by TalkTalk under a heading naming the Wi-Fi Hub Black and its Huawei hardware.

What is the default username and password for the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black?

Unique password on the device label

There is no default password for the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black that we could publish, because every unit has a different one.

Where to find yours. On the sticker underneath the removable settings card on the back of the hub.

TalkTalk covers the Wi-Fi Hub and the Wi-Fi Hub Black together for credentials, so the same instruction applies: the admin password is specific to your unit and there is no shared default to publish.

If a website offers you a single password that works on every TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black, it is wrong. Those lists copy a per-device password from one unit and republish it as though it were universal.

What do the lights on the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black mean?

Here is what each light on the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black is telling you, and what to do about it.

Statusalternating amberFlashing amber and white together means the hub is connecting to the internet.Wait for it to settle on solid white.

These meanings are documented for a closely related model in the same range. TalkTalk publishes these states on a page whose title covers both the Wi-Fi Hub and the Wi-Fi Hub Black, and both units have a single multicolour light on the front. What it does not publish is a table labelled for the Black alone.

How do you reset a TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black?

What you lose. Returns the hub to factory settings, so your Wi-Fi name and password revert to the printed values and every device has to be reconnected.

  1. Push a pin or straightened paperclip into the reset pinhole until you feel a click.
  2. Hold it for 30 seconds.
  3. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

TalkTalk publishes no reset instructions specific to the Wi-Fi Hub Black. This is its general router procedure, so treat the detail as indicative for this model.

A reboot is not a reset. A power cycle keeps your settings: switch the hub off, wait about 30 seconds, switch it back on and give it a couple of minutes to settle.

The exact hold time is not published by the manufacturer on the pages we have checked, so treat it as indicative.

What if you cannot get into the TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub Black at all?

A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.

No recovery route is published for this model. A factory reset is the only documented way back in.

That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
