TP-Link Archer VR2100 — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your TP-Link Archer VR2100 and go to 192.168.1.1, or tplinkmodem.net.
There is no factory password: you created one during setup.
The TP-Link Archer VR2100 is a combined modem and router from TP-Link. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the TP-Link Archer VR2100 gateway address?
The TP-Link Archer VR2100 settings page is at 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
You can also use tplinkmodem.net, which reaches the same page and is easier to remember.
Your device has to be connected to the TP-Link Archer VR2100 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
Two things differ here from TP-Link's Wi-Fi-only routers, and both catch people out. The address is 192.168.1.1, not 192.168.0.1, and the hostname is tplinkmodem.net, not tplinkwifi.net. TP-Link uses the modem hostname across its DSL range and the plain Wi-Fi hostname across the rest, and this unit's own User Guide and Quick Installation Guide both name tplinkmodem.net. If you have been typing tplinkwifi.net and getting nowhere, that is the reason.
What is the default username and password for the TP-Link Archer VR2100?
You set it during setup
The TP-Link Archer VR2100 does not ship with a password to look up. You create one yourself the first time you open its settings, and that is the credential you need.
There is no factory default login on this model. The User Guide could hardly be plainer: you are required to set the admin account at first login, and the setup screen asks you to create a strong password before it will let you continue. Now the part that matters, because it is the source of a great deal of bad advice about this router. The VR2100 User Guide does contain the words "the username and password are both admin" — but that sentence is about the USB storage sharing account, which controls access to a drive plugged into the back of the unit. It is not the login for the settings page, and it will not get you in. If you have found admin / admin quoted for a VR2100, this is almost certainly where it came from, one context removed. TP-Link also lists this model in its UK Statement of PSTI Compliance under devices whose password is unique per device or set by the user.

On a DSL modem router that is a larger job than on a plain router, because your broadband settings go too: the connection type, the VLAN if your provider needs one, and any username and password for the line. Have those to hand before you press the button, because without them the unit will come back to life with working Wi-Fi and no internet.
What do the lights on the TP-Link Archer VR2100 mean?
Here is what each light on the TP-Link Archer VR2100 is telling you, and what to do about it.

One state is deliberately missing above, and the omission is honest rather than an oversight. TP-Link's two documents for this model disagree about what an unlit WPS light means: the User Guide says a device has failed to be added, while the Quick Installation Guide describes the light simply timing out five minutes after a successful pairing. Those cannot both be true, and an unlit WPS light is by far the most common normal state on any router, so we will not tell you it means a failure. Everything else here is the panel exactly as the User Guide documents it, cross-checked against the Quick Installation Guide.
How do you reset a TP-Link Archer VR2100?
What you lose. The current configuration is lost and the unit has to be set up again from scratch. On a DSL modem router that is a larger job than on a plain router, because your broadband settings go too: the connection type, the VLAN if your provider needs one, and any username and password for the line. Have those to hand before you press the button, because without them the unit will come back to life with working Wi-Fi and no internet.
- The Reset button is on the back panel. With the unit powered on, press and hold it, and watch the whole LED row rather than any single light.
- Hold it for 8 seconds, until every LED lights up at once.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
Eight seconds is the figure in this model's own documentation, given three times — in the back-panel description, in the troubleshooting section and in the Quick Installation Guide. TP-Link's general xDSL FAQ says six to ten seconds, but that covers the whole DSL range rather than this unit. The confirmation is distinctive and different from the Archer AX73: all the LEDs come on together for a moment, rather than the Power light blinking on its own.
A reboot is not a reset. Rebooting keeps everything. It is also worth trying before anything drastic, because a modem router that has lost sync will often recover on a restart without any reconfiguration. Only the Reset button clears your settings.
What if you cannot get into the TP-Link Archer VR2100 at all?
The answer is a clean yes-or-no and it was decided when the unit was set up. If it is bound to a TP-Link ID, click "Forgot password" on the login page and reset it through the account. If it is not, TP-Link states there is no other route: the only way back in is a factory reset. Unlike the Archer AX73, this model has no built-in Password Recovery feature — there is no email fallback and no security question to fall back on, and its User Guide has no recovery section at all.
If that does not work, a factory reset will always get you in, at the cost of every setting on the unit.
