Vigor legacy models — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your Vigor legacy models and go to 192.168.1.1.

The login depends on how old your unit is; there are several documented combinations.

Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.

The Vigor legacy models is a combined modem and router from DrayTek, in UK use 2005-2016. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the Vigor legacy models gateway address?

The Vigor legacy models settings page is at 192.168.1.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

Your device has to be connected to the Vigor legacy models itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

Legacy Vigor units use the same default LAN address as the current range.

What is the default username and password for the Vigor legacy models?

Varies by hardware generation

There is no single default for the Vigor legacy models. It depends on how old the unit is, so work through these in order — the manufacturer documents all of them.

  1. Current and recent models(roughly 2016 onwards)

    Username
    admin
    Password
    admin

The standard default across the current Vigor range. Try this first even on an older unit.

  2. Older models, blank password(legacy)

    Username
    admin
    Password
    (leave empty)

Leave the password field completely empty and submit.

  3. Older models, both blank(legacy)

    Username
    (leave empty)
    Password
    (leave empty)

Leave both fields empty and submit.

  4. Oldest models(legacy)

    Username
    draytek
    Password
    1234

    The oldest documented combination.

  5. Provider-supplied units(any)

If an internet provider supplied the router, it may have set its own credentials and printed them on a sticker on the unit. Check the case before trying anything else, and contact the provider if there is no sticker. We cannot publish a value here because it differs per unit.

Every combination above is published by DrayTek itself rather than collected from forums. If the unit was supplied by an internet provider, treat all of them as a starting point only — the provider may have set its own credentials before shipping it.

What do the lights on the Vigor legacy models mean?

Here is what each light on the Vigor legacy models is telling you, and what to do about it.

LightWhat it meansWhat to do
ACTflashing greenThe router is running normally. The ACT light blinks about once per second in normal operation.Nothing to do.
ACTrapidly flashing greenYou are holding the factory reset button down and the reset has been triggered. If you did not mean to reset the router, this is your warning. If you did, release the button — the reset is under way.
ACToff offThe router is not running. Either it has no power, or it has failed to boot.Check the power supply and that the unit is switched on. If it has power but the ACT light never starts blinking, the firmware may need recovering.

These meanings are documented for a closely related model in the same range. The ACT light behaviour is consistent across Vigor generations.

Inherited. Only the ACT states DrayTek documents are carried across.

How do you reset a Vigor legacy models?

What you lose. Erases the entire configuration and returns the unit to its factory default login. On hardware this old, be certain you can rebuild the configuration first — the original installer may be long gone and the settings may not be documented anywhere.

  1. Press the button inside the small RESET hole with a paperclip and hold it while watching the ACT light.
  2. Hold it for 5 or more seconds, until the ACT light flashes very rapidly.
  3. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

DrayTek's own guidance is blunt about this: do not reset a working router unless you have all the information you need to set it up again.

A reboot is not a reset. A power cycle keeps every setting. Only RESET clears them.

What if you cannot get into the Vigor legacy models at all?

A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.

There is no password recovery on any Vigor generation. On legacy hardware this bites hardest, because these units are frequently found in service with nobody left who knows the password. DrayTek has seen units more than ten years old whose original installer cannot be traced. Work through the documented default combinations first; a factory reset is the last resort.

That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
