Sky Q Hub — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your Sky Q Hub and go to 192.168.0.1.

The documented default login is admin with the password sky.

Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.

The Sky Q Hub is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from Sky, in UK use Still covered by Sky's help tools. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the Sky Q Hub gateway address?

The Sky Q Hub settings page is at 192.168.0.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

Your device has to be connected to the Sky Q Hub itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

Sky gives this on two help pages that both name the Sky Q Hub in their scope. Note it is 192.168.0.1, not the 192.168.1.x most other UK hubs use.

What is the default username and password for the Sky Q Hub?

Documented fixed default

The manufacturer publishes a single default login for the Sky Q Hub, so we can show it:

Username
admin
Password
sky

This is one of the few UK ISP hubs where a shared default genuinely exists and the provider publishes it. Sky states the username and password for the Sky Q Hub on two of its own help pages. Two things worth knowing: this is not your Wi-Fi password, which is printed on the back or bottom of the hub and is specific to your unit; and Sky's newer hubs moved away from this. The Sky Broadband Hub uses admin with the printed Wi-Fi password instead, and the Sky Max Hub has no web login at all. So "all Sky hubs use admin and sky" is wrong, even though it is correct for this one.

This only works if nobody has changed it. On a unit that has been in service for a while, someone should have, and if they did then no published default will help you.

What do the lights on the Sky Q Hub mean?

Here is what each light on the Sky Q Hub is telling you, and what to do about it.

LightWhat it meansWhat to do
Powersolid greenThe hub is powered and running normally.Nothing to do — check the internet light next.
Powersolid redSky treats this as a possible fault with the hub itself.Contact Sky if it persists after a restart.
Powerflashing amberThe hub is in recovery mode, which Sky says can happen after a software update.Leave it alone. Sky only asks you to reset the hub if it has been flashing for more than 15 minutes.
PoweroffThe hub lights are off.Switch it off at the mains, check the power cable for damage, and test the socket with another device.
Internetsolid greenYou are set up and connected to the internet.Nothing to do.
Internetsolid amberSky routes this to the same troubleshooting as no light at all — there is a problem.Check the cables and run Sky's service checker.
InternetoffThere is a problem with the connection.Check the cables and run Sky's service checker.

Sky documents two lights for this hub, power and internet, each as a separate question in its help tool. It publishes no wireless or WPS light state for the Q Hub.

How do you reset a Sky Q Hub?

What you lose. Resets every hub setting including your Wi-Fi password, which reverts to the value printed on the back or bottom of the hub. The hub password returns to the default as well.

  1. Press and hold the Reset button on the back. No pin is needed.
  2. Hold it for Sky publishes 10 seconds on one page, up to 30 on another, and 10 to 30 on a third — hold until the lights on the front blink.
  3. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

Sky also documents an extra step people miss: once the reset has finished and the lights are normal, switch the hub off and on at the mains, because that is what restores the ability to make and receive calls.

A reboot is not a reset. A power cycle keeps your settings. Wait for the power, Wi-Fi and internet lights to return to green.

What if you cannot get into the Sky Q Hub at all?

A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.

Sky states that if the hub password does not work or you have forgotten what you changed it to, you reset the hub to its default settings. No override is published.

That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
