Virgin Media Hub 3 — login, gateway address and status lights
Open a browser on a device connected to your Virgin Media Hub 3 and go to 192.168.0.1.
The password is unique to your unit and printed on it — there is no universal default.
Before you reset anything: a lost admin password on this model cannot be recovered. A factory reset is the only way back in and it erases the entire configuration.
The Virgin Media Hub 3 is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from Virgin Media, in UK use Being replaced by the Hub 5 from 2025. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.
What is the Virgin Media Hub 3 gateway address?
The Virgin Media Hub 3 settings page is at 192.168.0.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.
There is a second address to know about: 192.168.100.1. Which one works depends on how the unit is currently configured.
Your device has to be connected to the Virgin Media Hub 3 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.
The hub answers on 192.168.0.1 in its normal router mode. Put it into modem mode and it moves to 192.168.100.1, which is where you have to go to get it back out again — a detail that strands people who switch modem mode on and then cannot find the hub.
What is the default username and password for the Virgin Media Hub 3?
Unique password on the device label
There is no default password for the Virgin Media Hub 3 that we could publish, because every unit has a different one.
Where to find yours. On a label on the base of the hub.
Virgin Media calls this the settings password and states repeatedly that it is not your Wi-Fi password: the settings password gets you into the hub to change things, the Wi-Fi password gets a device onto the network. The Wi-Fi credentials are on a separate removable card at the bottom of the hub. The settings password is specific to your unit, so there is no shared default to publish, and Virgin Media confirms that a factory reset restores the printed label value rather than some generic default. No admin username is documented — the sign-in is password-only.
If a website offers you a single password that works on every Virgin Media Hub 3, it is wrong. Those lists copy a per-device password from one unit and republish it as though it were universal.
What do the lights on the Virgin Media Hub 3 mean?
Here is what each light on the Virgin Media Hub 3 is telling you, and what to do about it.
| Light | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Powersolid white | Everything is fine. This is what you see when the hub is working normally, and Virgin Media notes the hub usually has just this one light on. | Nothing to do. |
| Powerflashing white | The hub is starting up, which happens when it is first turned on. | Wait for it to turn solid white. |
| Powersolid purple | With solid green internet and phone lights, purple means the hub is in modem mode and is not sharing Wi-Fi. | If you did not intend this, you are probably meant to be using your own router behind it. To undo it, go to 192.168.100.1 and disable modem mode, or factory reset the hub. |
| Powersolid red | Virgin Media says this usually means the hub is too hot. | Switch it off at the wall, check the vents are clear and the hub is upright and away from heat, then leave it 15 minutes to cool before switching it back on. If it is red but not warm, factory reset it. |
| Powerflashing green | Flashing green power and internet with solid green Wi-Fi and phone means the hub is starting up. | Give it five to ten minutes. The other lights then switch off and the power light turns solid white. |
| WiFisolid green | A device has been successfully paired using WPS. It stays green for five minutes. | Nothing to do. |
| WiFiflashing green | The hub is ready to pair over WPS and flashes for about two minutes. | The WPS button sits just above the Virgin Media logo — press it for two seconds. |
| WiFiflashing red | Constant flashing red means the hub is on but your Wi-Fi is not. If it only flashes red for two minutes, a WPS pairing attempt failed. | For constant flashing, Virgin Media points at a loose connection in the home. |
| Internetflashing green | Flashing green slowly means a software update is downloading. | Leave it. The hub reboots itself a few minutes after the download finishes. |
| Internetflashing red | With a solid white power light and solid green Wi-Fi, this means the hub has finished starting up but could not register on Virgin Media's network. | Reboot the hub and allow five to ten minutes for it to start. |
| Phoneflashing red | There may be a phone issue in your area or on the wider network. | Check the cables into and out of the hub and the phone are pushed in firmly. |
| Statusoff | No lights at all means the hub is off. | Check the power supply is firmly connected at both ends, the wall socket is switched on, and the hub's own power button is on. |
Virgin Media documents these as combinations of four lights — power, Wi-Fi, internet and phone — rather than one light at a time, and notes that a healthy hub usually shows only the power light. There is also a light on each of the four Ethernet ports at the back. One oddity: Virgin Media publishes a solid yellow power light state whose description is word-for-word identical to solid white, which looks like an error on its part, so we have left it out rather than tell you yellow means everything is fine.
How do you reset a Virgin Media Hub 3?
What you lose. Returns the hub to factory settings, so any change such as a new Wi-Fi password has to be made again. It also forces the hub back into router mode, which is a documented way out of modem mode if you have lost access.
- With the hub switched on, press the pinhole reset button on the back or base with the tip of a pen.
- Hold it for 10 seconds.
- Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.
Virgin Media says to allow five to ten minutes for the hub to start up afterwards, and that it is ready when the power light at the front is solid white.
A reboot is not a reset. A reboot keeps your settings and takes five to ten minutes to come back up. Virgin Media says the hub is ready when the front power light is solid white.
What if you cannot get into the Virgin Media Hub 3 at all?
A lost password cannot be recovered on this model. There is no backdoor, no master password and no way for the manufacturer to retrieve it.
Virgin Media puts it helpfully: if you have forgotten what you changed the settings password to, reset the hub and the password goes back to the one it came with. That is a factory reset rather than a password override, so your other settings go with it.
That leaves two options, in this order: find whoever set the unit up and ask them, or factory reset it and rebuild the configuration from scratch. Restoring a configuration backup does not help, because the backup contains the same password you do not know.
