Virgin Media Hub 5 — login, gateway address and status lights

Open a browser on a device connected to your Virgin Media Hub 5 and go to 192.168.0.1.

The password is unique to your unit and printed on it — there is no universal default.

The Virgin Media Hub 5 is a broadband hub supplied by an internet provider from Virgin Media, in UK use 2021-present. This page covers the four things people actually come looking for: its settings address, how its login works, what its lights mean and how to reset it safely.

What is the Virgin Media Hub 5 gateway address?

The Virgin Media Hub 5 settings page is at 192.168.0.1. Type that into the address bar of a browser — not into a search box, which will just search for the number instead of opening the page.

There is a second address to know about: 192.168.100.1. Which one works depends on how the unit is currently configured.

Your device has to be connected to the Virgin Media Hub 5 itself for this to work — over its Wi-Fi or by cable. On mobile data, or connected to a different network, the address goes nowhere.

192.168.0.1 is the address in normal router mode. If you have switched the Hub into modem mode, the settings page moves to 192.168.100.1 — this is the single most common reason a Virgin Media Hub appears unreachable.

What is the default username and password for the Virgin Media Hub 5?

Unique password on the device label

There is no default password for the Virgin Media Hub 5 that we could publish, because every unit has a different one.

Where to find yours. On the sticker on the base of the Hub, labelled settings password. It is not the Wi-Fi password, which is printed alongside it.

Each Hub has its own settings password, so there is no shared default to publish. Virgin Media is explicit that the settings password and the Wi-Fi password are different values.

If a website offers you a single password that works on every Virgin Media Hub 5, it is wrong. Those lists copy a per-device password from one unit and republish it as though it were universal.

What do the lights on the Virgin Media Hub 5 mean?

Not yet verified against Virgin Media documentation and deliberately omitted rather than guessed.

How do you reset a Virgin Media Hub 5?

What you lose. Returns the Hub to factory settings, including putting it back into router mode. Any port forwarding rules and DHCP reservations are lost, so note them down first.

  1. Press and hold the recessed pinhole reset button on the back of the Hub.
  2. Release, and give the unit a few minutes to restart before trying to connect.

Virgin Media documents that a factory reset returns the Hub to router mode but does not publish a hold time on the page reviewed. Treat the hold time as unverified.

A reboot is not a reset. A reboot from the settings page or by power-cycling keeps all settings. Only a factory reset clears them.

The exact hold time is not published by the manufacturer on the pages we have checked, so treat it as indicative.

What if you cannot get into the Virgin Media Hub 5 at all?

The settings password is printed on the base of the Hub, so it can always be read off the unit.

If that does not work, a factory reset will always get you in, at the cost of every setting on the unit.
