Why a virtual number?
Look established, never miss a call, route enquiries to whoever’s available — and keep your personal mobile number private. From sole traders to 50-seat teams, virtual numbers give your business a professional front without the cost of a fixed line.
What is a virtual phone number?
A virtual phone number is a real UK telephone number that isn’t tied to a physical phone line. Calls are routed through the cloud to whichever device you choose — your mobile, an existing landline, a VoIP handset, or all three at once. You get every benefit of having a “proper” business number (a local 0121 in Birmingham, a national 0333, an 0800 freephone, a charity 0300) without paying for a copper line, a PBX or office hardware. Whether you’re a sole trader who needs to keep their personal mobile private, a multi-region business that wants a single national number, or a charity that needs an 0300, our virtual numbers give you the professionalism and flexibility a fixed line can’t.
We’ve been delivering UK business telecoms since 1995 and we own the network we sell on, which means there’s no middleman markup, no offshore call centre, and no contract gymnastics. Numbers go live within hours of the quote being signed off, our UK team handles every port for free, and you can cancel any time on 30 days’ notice. If you outgrow virtual numbers and want a full hosted phone system, your number ports straight onto our Hypercloud Hosted VoIP platform with zero downtime.
Choose your UK virtual number type
Different number types do different jobs. A local 01/02 number builds trust in a specific area; a 0333 gives you a single national presence; an 0800 makes you free to call. Below is a quick guide — or talk to our team if you’re not sure which fits your business.
01 & 02 Local Numbers
Geographic numbers tied to a specific UK area code — 0121 for Birmingham, 0161 for Manchester, 020 for London, 0131 for Edinburgh and so on. Customers recognise them instantly as standard-rate landlines, which lifts answer rates compared to mobile-format numbers.
- Choose any UK area code
- Standard-rate calls for your customers
- Best for: sole traders, tradespeople, local shops
0333 National Numbers
Non-geographic UK numbers charged at standard 01/02 call rates and included in most landline and mobile bundles. A single 0333 number works nationwide so you can run multi-region marketing without splitting your contact details across area codes.
- Free for customers within their inclusive minutes
- Single number, nationwide reach
- Best for: online businesses, multi-region operators
0800 Freephone Numbers
Free for the caller from every UK landline and mobile. The single biggest CTR boost you can give a marketing campaign — “free to call” removes the last barrier to enquiry. Tracked separately from your other numbers so you can measure campaign-by-campaign response rates.
- Free from all UK landlines and mobiles
- Memorable for advertising and direct mail
- Best for: lead-gen campaigns, customer service lines
0300 Numbers
Reserved exclusively for registered charities, not-for-profits and public sector bodies. Charged at the same rate as 01/02 calls and included in most call packages, but signal to callers that they’re contacting a recognised organisation, not a commercial business.
- Eligibility-restricted (we’ll verify on application)
- Standard-rate calls for callers
- Best for: charities, councils, NHS providers
Mobile Landline
A virtual landline number that rings straight to your existing mobile. Perfect for sole traders and one-person businesses who want a professional landline presence without changing how they actually take calls. Comes with the same free features as our larger packages.
- Calls forward to your existing mobile
- No new hardware, no new SIM
- Best for: sole traders, contractors, side-businesses
Port Your Existing Number

- Free porting from any UK provider
- Zero downtime cutover
- Best for: anyone switching telecoms providers

Frequently asked questions about virtual numbers
What is a UK virtual phone number?
A UK virtual phone number is a real, fully-functional UK telephone number (01, 02, 0333, 0800 or 0300) that isn’t tied to a fixed phone line. Calls to the number are routed through the cloud to whichever device you choose — your mobile, your existing landline, a VoIP handset, or several at once. From the caller’s perspective it behaves exactly like a normal landline number; from your perspective it’s far more flexible because you can change where it rings without changing the number itself.
How much does a virtual number cost?
Pricing depends on the number type, how many users you need it ringing on, and which features you want layered in. We don’t publish per-number prices because the right answer for a sole trader who needs one 01 number ringing to a mobile is very different from a 50-seat business that needs an 0800 number routed through hunt groups, time-of-day rules and voicemail-to-email. Request a quote and we’ll come back the same working day with a single transparent monthly figure.
Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes — we port geographic 01/02, national 0333 and 0800 freephone numbers in from any UK provider for free. Your number stays live throughout the port and we coordinate the cutover so there’s no missed-call window. Most ports complete in 5–10 working days. If your current contract has notice or early-termination terms, we can help you time the order to minimise overlap.
What’s the difference between a virtual number and VoIP?
A virtual number is a phone number that lives in the cloud and rings whatever device you point it at. A VoIP phone system (like our Hypercloud platform) is a complete cloud-based phone system — multiple users with extensions, desk handsets, mobile apps, call recording, conference rooms, the lot. Most businesses start with a virtual number, then upgrade to VoIP as the team grows. Your number ports across between the two with no downtime.
How do I get a 0121 (or 0161, 0131, 020 etc.) number?
Any UK area code you can think of, we can get you. Just submit a quote request with the area code you want and we’ll allocate from our available number range. We have stock across every UK area code — the 0121 Birmingham range, the 0161 Manchester range, the 020 London range, all the way through to the smaller geographic codes. If you need a memorable or specific number, mention it in your enquiry and we’ll do our best to match.
Are virtual numbers reliable for business use?
Yes. Our virtual numbers run on our own UK network, with carrier-grade uptime, automatic failover and 24/7 monitoring. The platform is the same one we use for our enterprise Hypercloud customers, just provisioned for single-number use. We’ve been on the UK telecoms network since 1995 — this isn’t a side product for us, it’s our core business.
Do I have to install anything?
No. Calls are forwarded to existing devices — your mobile, your existing landline, or a VoIP handset if you have one. There’s no app to install, no router to configure, no engineer visit needed. You’ll get a login to our online control panel where you can manage hunt groups, voicemail, holiday mode and so on, but everything works straight out of the box.
Are 0333 numbers free to call?
0333 numbers are charged at the standard 01/02 rate — the same as calling a normal landline. They’re included in most mobile and landline call bundles, so for the vast majority of UK callers a 0333 number costs nothing to call. If you need genuinely free-to-the-caller calls, choose an 0800 freephone number instead.
