Quick answer: Every UK network has two voicemail numbers — a short code you dial from your own phone (EE 222, O2 901, Vodafone 121, Three 123) and an 11-digit number you dial from another phone or abroad. The full table with all six major networks is below, plus business voicemail-to-email setup, security tips and how to disable voicemail entirely.
Voicemail numbers for every UK network (2026)
Whether you’ve just switched, lost your phone, or you’re abroad and need to grab a message, here’s the full reference. Short code = dial from your own SIM. External number = dial from any other phone, then enter your mobile number and voicemail PIN.
| Network | Short code | External (UK) | Default voicemail PIN |
|---|---|---|---|
| EE BT Group | 222 | 07953 222222 | Set on first call |
| O2 VMO2 | 901 | 07802 090 122 | 8705 |
| Vodafone | 121 | 07836 121121 | Set on first call |
| Three | 123 | 07782 333123 | Set on first call |
| Sky Mobile O2 host | 901 | 07802 090122 | Set on first call |
| BT Mobile EE host | 222 | 07953 222222 | Set on first call |
Sky Mobile and BT Mobile are MVNOs riding O2 and EE respectively, so they use the same voicemail platform as their host network. Tesco Mobile (O2), Lebara (Vodafone) and giffgaff (O2) follow the same pattern.

How to set up voicemail on a new SIM
The first time you dial your network’s short code, the platform walks you through three steps:
Set a 4–6 digit PIN
Avoid 1234, 0000 or your year of birth. Treat it like a banking PIN — it is the only thing protecting your messages from anyone who calls your number.
Record a greeting
For business, include your name, company and a clear next-step (“press 0 to hold, or text and we’ll reply within an hour”). Keep it under 20 seconds.
Choose a notification
SMS notification is free on every UK network. Voicemail-to-email is available on EE Business, Vodafone Business and O2 Business plans.
Voicemail security — a 30-second job that locks out fraud
In 2011 the News of the World scandal exposed how trivially mobile voicemails could be hijacked using default PINs. The networks responded — and in 2026 every UK MNO requires a custom PIN before voicemail can be reached from another phone. If you skipped that step, do it now. Dial the short code, choose Settings → Security → Change PIN, and pick something memorable but non-obvious.
- Use a unique PIN — not the same as your phone unlock or banking app.
- Disable remote access if you never need it (Vodafone & O2 allow it via the My Account portal).
- Enable SMS alerts for failed PIN attempts (EE Business and Vodafone Business plans).
- Forward voicemail to email on a business plan so messages live in a searchable inbox.
- Set a regular review — change the PIN annually as part of starter/leaver IT housekeeping.

Checking voicemail from abroad
If you’re outside the UK and need a message, dial the 11-digit external voicemail number from the table above. Calls to your own voicemail short code (e.g. 222) are usually free — but the international long number is treated like any UK landline call, so it falls under your roaming bundle.
To save money:
- If you’re on a roaming-included bundle (most modern business plans cover the EU and major destinations), there’s no extra charge.
- If you’re not, ask your provider to enable voicemail-to-email — messages then arrive as audio attachments over Wi-Fi at zero cost.
- Three customers can use Three InTouch to access voicemail over Wi-Fi anywhere in the world for free.
Business voicemail: features beyond the basics
Consumer voicemail just plays back a recording. Business voicemail platforms — bundled with hosted VoIP, EE Business, Vodafone Business and O2 Business plans — add:
Disabling voicemail (if you never want it)
Some users prefer missed-call SMS over voicemail. To turn it off completely on each network:
- EE: dial
#1210#(cancels divert-on-no-answer). - O2: dial
1760from your handset. - Vodafone: dial
**61*121**0#for no-answer divert;**62*121**0#for unreachable divert. - Three: call 333 and ask the team — Three doesn’t expose a self-service code.
Full step-by-step is in our guide to turning voicemail off on every UK network.

Voicemail numbers — FAQs
Each network handles voicemail differently — and pricing for visual voicemail varies wildly. See the best business mobile phone plans in the UK to find the network that bundles it free.
121 is the Vodafone short code. If you’re on EE try 222, on O2 try 901, on Three try 123. Some MVNOs (Tesco, giffgaff, Sky) inherit their host network’s code.
Open your phone’s dialer app, go to Settings → Call → Voicemail → Voicemail Number. If it’s blank, your network hasn’t auto-provisioned it yet — call your provider.
From your own SIM in the UK: no, it’s always free. From another phone you pay standard UK call rates. From abroad, roaming charges apply unless your bundle includes inclusive minutes.
Yes on every business plan. Voicemail-to-email is included on EE Business, Vodafone Business, O2 Business and every hosted VoIP platform. Consumer SIMs typically don’t include it.
+44 7953 222222. Dial that from any phone abroad, then your mobile number and voicemail PIN. The same number works for BT Mobile (which uses EE’s network).
