Voicemail lets callers leave a message when you cannot answer. All UK mobile networks provide voicemail as a free service, though you need to set it up and may be charged for calling to listen to messages depending on your plan.

How to Set Up Voicemail

1. Call your network's voicemail number (see below).
2. Follow the prompts to create a PIN and record a greeting.
3. Your voicemail is now active.

How to Turn Off Voicemail

If you prefer missed calls to simply ring out (useful for businesses that use a call forwarding system), you can turn voicemail off with your network's short code or a divert cancellation code:

• Any UK network: dial ##002# and press call — cancels all diverts including voicemail. Dial ##004# to cancel only conditional diverts (busy, unanswered, unreachable) and keep any deliberate forwarding.
• O2: dial 1760 (free) to switch voicemail off; dial 1750 to switch it back on.
• Vodafone: dial 1210 to deactivate; dial 1211 to reactivate.
• EE: no dedicated off code — use ##002#, or call 150 and ask for voicemail to be disabled.
• Three: use ##002#, or call 333 to ask.

To check where your calls currently divert, dial *#004#. Test the change by calling your phone from another number.

• Record a professional greeting that includes your name, company and an alternative contact method.
• Check voicemail regularly — or set up voicemail-to-email if your provider supports it.
• Consider a hosted VoIP system with visual voicemail for better message management.
