iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra: Which Foldable for Business?

This article compared the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with the rumoured “iPhone Fold”; both have been superseded, so it now compares the confirmed iPhone Duo against Samsung’s current Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra with a business lens: price, screens, SIM, management, durability and which teams each suits. Prices side by side

All prices include VAT; a VAT-registered business reclaims 20%, so the ex-VAT gap between a base Duo and a base Fold8 is £250. The Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra went on sale in the UK on 7 August 2026 (reported by Tech Advisor, 22 July 2026) and are in stock; the Duo is pre-order from 1:00 pm on 16 October and ships from 23 October. Network business tariffs for the Duo had not been published on 22 September 2026, so contract-price comparisons are not yet possible; we will add them with retrieval dates when they are.

Screens and form factor

The Fold8 Ultra has the biggest canvas and is the thinnest and, for its size, the lightest; the Duo is the heaviest of the three at 254 g but the only one with an outdoor brightness figure of 3,000 nits published by its maker. The standard Fold8 has a wider, shorter outer screen than the Ultra, which some users prefer for typing closed.

eSIM-only vs physical SIM for fleets

This is the single biggest operational difference. The Duo is eSIM-only worldwide: two active eSIMs, eight or more stored, no tray. Both Samsung Fold8 models take a nano-SIM plus eSIM, or two eSIMs. If your support process involves pulling the SIM from a failed handset and dropping it into a spare, Samsung preserves that; with the Duo the network has to re-issue the profile, which is quick once agreed with your account manager but is a new step. On the Apple side, ask your network about eSIM Carrier Activation so the profile installs during Automated Device Enrolment, and set the AllowESIMModification restriction so users cannot remove the work line. Management: Apple Business vs Samsung Knox

Apple replaced Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Manager) with the free Apple Business platform on 14 April 2026: built-in MDM, Blueprints for zero-touch configuration, Managed Apple Accounts with cryptographic separation of work and personal data, plus business email, calendar and directory. A Duo bought through a reseller can be assigned to your Apple Business account before dispatch and enrols itself on first connection. Samsung’s answer is Knox: Knox Mobile Enrollment for zero-touch, Knox Manage or any third-party MDM (Intune, Google Endpoint Management) for policy, Knox Platform for Enterprise for work-profile separation, and the Enterprise Edition programme that adds extended support terms for business buyers; see our Samsung Enterprise Edition guide. Both Fold8 models carry a published security-update commitment to 31 July 2033 on Samsung’s UK spec pages. Apple does not publish an end date, but its track record is six to seven years of iOS updates. If your IT team already runs Intune with Windows PCs, Samsung slots in with less change; if it runs Jamf or Apple Business with Macs, the Duo does.

Durability, battery and pen input

Apple rates the Duo at IP68 to 6 metres for 30 minutes, with a titanium frame, a 3D-printed titanium hinge cover, Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer display and Ceramic Shield on the back. Samsung rates the Fold8 at IP48: protected against fresh-water immersion but only against solid particles larger than 1 mm, so it is not a dust-proof phone for site work; we did not capture a published rating for the Fold8 Ultra, so confirm it with Samsung or the network before issuing one to outdoor staff. On battery, Samsung quotes 4,800 mAh (Fold8) and 5,000 mAh (Fold8 Ultra), with up to 26 hours of video playback claimed for the Fold8; Apple quotes dual batteries with up to 24 hours of typical use and 31 hours of video on the inner display or 44 hours on the outer, and a 50% charge in around 20 minutes from a 60W adapter. Both Samsung models charge at up to 45W. On pen input, Apple has confirmed Apple Pencil (USB-C) support for the Duo “later this year”; Samsung’s UK spec pages for the Fold8 models do not list S Pen support, so treat pen use on Samsung as unconfirmed until you have checked with Samsung.

Which teams should get which

• Directors and reviewers in an Apple business: iPhone Duo. Two apps side by side, Apple Business enrolment, Touch ID in the side button for masked or gloved users.
• Consultants and account managers presenting from the device: Fold8 Ultra if they want the biggest screen and DeX to a monitor; Duo if the rest of their kit is Apple.
• Field and site teams: neither, in most cases. A foldable is a premium tool for people who use the inner screen daily; the iPhone 18 Pro or a Galaxy S26 handles site work at a lower price with a better camera.
• Mixed fleets: allowed, but standardise the MDM first. Intune manages both platforms; Apple Business manages only Apple.
• Budget-led buyers: the standard Fold8 is £300 below the Duo at RRP and in stock today; the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is cheaper still from network stock.
