Why the Fold8 suits business
The Fold8 is the first book-style foldable that is light enough to issue as a phone rather than as a gadget. At 201 g and 9.7 mm closed it weighs 48 g less than an iPhone 18 Pro Max (249 g) and is Samsung’s lightest Fold to date; open, it is 4.5 mm thick with a 7.6-inch, 120Hz inner display in a 4:3 shape that suits PDFs, board packs, spreadsheets and two apps side by side. The 5.5-inch outer display works as a normal phone for calls, messages and navigation. For a director, consultant or account manager who currently carries a phone and an iPad or small tablet, the Fold8 replaces both, and that is the business case: one device, one SIM, one MDM policy, one charger.
The Fold8 Ultra is the same idea at a larger size: an 8.0-inch inner display, a 6.5-inch outer display, 215 g, 4.1 mm open and 8.9 mm closed, a 200MP main camera with a 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 5,000 mAh battery against the Fold8’s 4,800 mAh. The £200 premium buys screen area and the telephoto. Both run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM (16GB on the 1TB models), carry a published security-update commitment to 31 July 2033 on Samsung’s UK specification pages, keep a nano-SIM tray alongside eSIM, and support Samsung DeX, so either can drive a monitor, keyboard and mouse as a desktop for hotel and site work.

Two limits to know before you order. Neither model supports the S Pen: Samsung’s UK FAQ for the Fold8 states this directly and the Fold8 Ultra specification page does not list pen support, so contract signing and mark-up are finger-only. And the Fold8 is rated IP48, which means fresh-water immersion protection but only against solid particles larger than 1 mm; we did not capture a published rating for the Fold8 Ultra. Neither is a phone for dusty site work; the rugged business phones guide covers that job.

The Fold8 business contract landscape
Foldables are ranged more thinly than the S26 series, so business pricing is patchier than it is for an S26 Ultra or an iPhone 18 Pro. Public list prices, ex-VAT, retrieved 22 September 2026:

Two things stand out in Vodafone’s figures. First, the 36-month handset term: the total for a Fold8 (256GB) is £1,451.67 ex-VAT, or £1,742 including VAT, which is £43 above Samsung’s £1,699 RRP; for the Fold8 Ultra the £1,715 total is £2,058 including VAT, £159 above the £1,899 RRP. A 0% APR plan still costs more than buying outright when the plan price sits above RRP, so compare the total against an outright purchase on a SIM-only business plan. Second, foldable stock is thinner than slab-phone stock, so specify an acceptable alternative colour on any fleet order. Connection Technologies quotes are bespoke, state the total over the term and are normally below the list prices above; where a network does not range the Fold8 we can supply the handset and pair it with that network’s SIM-only plan.
Fold8 or Fold8 Ultra: which to issue
Buy the Fold8 for most foldable roles. It is the lighter phone, the one with the published IP48 rating, and £200 cheaper at RRP; the 7.6-inch inner screen is large enough for a document at readable size, and the 50MP pair covers site photos and document capture. Buy the Fold8 Ultra where the inner screen is the job: surveyors and architects reviewing drawings, property and insurance staff comparing documents, anyone presenting from the device to a client across a desk, and users who need optical zoom for site or inspection photography. Closed, the Ultra’s 6.5-inch outer display also makes it a more convincing phone for someone who will spend most of the day with it shut.
For fleets, standardise on one model and storage tier. Mixed foldable estates complicate case procurement, screen-protector stock and MDM display profiles, and the two models take different cases. 256GB is enough for a managed device where files live in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace; specify 512GB only for users who record video on site.
Fold8 vs Galaxy Z Fold 7: is the upgrade worth it?
If you already run Fold 7s, keep them. The Fold8 is lighter (201 g against 215 g), has a larger battery (4,800 mAh against 4,400 mAh) and a newer chip, but the Fold 7 has the larger screens (8.0-inch inner, 6.5-inch outer, the sizes the Fold8 Ultra now uses), remains inside Samsung’s seven-year update window and does the same job. If you are buying new, the pricing is unusual: on 22 September 2026 Samsung UK still listed the Fold 7 (256GB) at £1,799, £100 above the Fold8, so do not buy a Fold 7 at Samsung’s price. On Vodafone Business, though, the Fold 7 handset plan was £33.75 a month over 36 months plus £58.33 upfront (£1,273.33 total ex-VAT), £178 less than the Fold8 over the term, which makes network Fold 7 stock the value route for a cost-controlled rollout. Against the iPhone Duo (£1,999, on sale 23 October 2026), the Fold8 is £300 cheaper at RRP, keeps a physical SIM tray, runs DeX, and is in stock now; the Duo wins for Apple-managed estates and Apple Business zero-touch enrolment. The full comparison is in iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold8 for business.
Tax treatment
A Fold8 bought through the business is a normal business asset. VAT-registered businesses reclaim the 20% VAT on the handset and the airtime, with an apportionment if private use is significant. A limited company deducts the monthly cost against corporation tax and claims an outright handset purchase through the Annual Investment Allowance; one company phone per employee, contract in the company name, carries no benefit-in-kind charge, and a Fold8 counts as one phone even though it replaces a tablet. Knox, Intune and SIM set-up
Both models are Android Enterprise devices with Samsung’s Knox layer on top. Knox Vault stores credentials and keys in a separate secure processor; Knox Mobile Enrollment lets a reseller or Samsung register the devices to your tenant before dispatch so they enrol into Microsoft Intune, Knox Manage or another Android Enterprise MDM at first boot; and Knox Suite adds the fleet-management extras (firmware control, remote support, device attestation) that regulated firms tend to want. The foldable-specific points for IT are the display: check that your MDM’s kiosk or work-profile policies behave when the inner and outer screens swap, and pin the display and DeX settings you want in the device profile. On SIMs, the Fold8 gives you a choice the iPhone Duo does not: a nano-SIM tray plus eSIM. Fleets that hot-swap SIMs between spare handsets, or that run a data SIM from a second network for failover, should keep the physical SIM; eSIM suits single-line users and lets a work and personal number share one handset. Samsung UK RRP is £1,699 (256GB), £1,869 (512GB) and £2,209 (1TB) including VAT. The only public business handset price we found on 22 September 2026 was Vodafone Business at £39.17 a month over 36 months plus £41.67 upfront for the 256GB model, ex-VAT, with airtime added separately. EE and O2 quote on request and Three did not range it. A reseller quote states the total over the term and is normally lower.
Samsung UK RRP is £1,899 (256GB), £2,069 (512GB) and £2,409 (1TB) including VAT, so £1,582.50 ex-VAT for the base model. Vodafone Business listed the 256GB handset at £46.25 a month over 36 months plus £50 upfront, £1,715 in total ex-VAT, on 22 September 2026.
No. Samsung’s UK FAQ for the Galaxy Z Fold8 states that it does not support the S Pen, and the Fold8 Ultra specification page does not list pen support either. If pen input is essential, the Galaxy S26 Ultra keeps a built-in S Pen.
