Sky Mobile APN Settings

Updated

Quick Answer

The Sky Mobile APN is mobile.sky with no username or password, and the MMS APN is a separate mms.mobile.sky. Sky would rather push these to your phone than have you type them: request them in My Sky under Product Settings > Mobile > Manage > Network and controls.

Checking mobile APN settings on a UK SIM

Sky is an unusual case. Its main APN help article — the one its own sky.com/apn shortcut leads to — contains no settings at all, by design. Sky wants you to pull them from your account instead. The real values are published, but in Sky’s per-device guide portal, so anyone checking the obvious page would reasonably conclude Sky publishes nothing.

Both routes are below, Sky’s preferred one first.

Ask Sky to Send the Settings

  1. Sign in to My Sky.
  2. Go to Product Settings and open the Mobile tab, then Manage.
  3. Select the SIM you want, then Manage again.
  4. Choose Network and controls, then Request network settings.

Sky sends a text or notification to the handset and says it can take up to five minutes to arrive. If Android prompts for a PIN while applying them, Sky gives the default as 1111. This is worth trying before manual entry, because it also works on handsets where the APN fields are locked.

Complete Sky Mobile APN Settings

The data profile:

NameSky Mobile Internet
APNmobile.sky
UsernameLeave blank
PasswordLeave blank
MCC234
MNC57
APN typeDefault
Proxy / Port / ServerNot published by the operator
BearerNot published by the operator

And the MMS profile, which uses a different APN string:

NameSky Mobile MMS
APNmms.mobile.sky
UsernameLeave blank
PasswordLeave blank
MMSChttp://185.110.178.96:38090/was
MMS proxy185.110.178.97
MMS port9028
MCC / MNC234 / 57
Authentication typeNone
APN typemms
APN protocolIPv4
MMS max message size307200

Two things to be careful about. Sky is one of the few networks whose MMS APN genuinely differs from its data APN, so mms.mobile.sky is not a typo. And the MMSC and proxy are two different addresses one apart — .96 for the MMSC, .97 for the proxy. Copying one into both fields is an easy mistake that leaves picture messaging broken while data works perfectly.

Check VoLTE and 5G First on iPhone

Sky now states you need a 4G or 5G capable device for mobile data, having dropped its 3G references in early 2026. On iPhone it asks you to check two things before touching APNs: that 5G auto is selected and VoLTE is enabled under Settings > Mobile Service, and that WiFi Calling is on. If data is dead on a Sky SIM, those are quicker to rule out than an APN.

Entering the Settings Manually

On Android, add two profiles under Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Access Point Names — one for data, one for MMS — then select the data profile. On iPhone use Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Network, where the MMS proxy and port go in as a single 185.110.178.97:9028 entry. Fuller instructions are in our Android and iPhone guides.

If the fields will not save, Sky’s own guides note that the network you switched from may have disabled APN editing on the handset. Request the settings from your account instead. More diagnosis in mobile data not working.

Which Network Does Sky Mobile Use?

Sky Mobile is widely reported to run on O2, and Ofcom lists it that way, but Sky itself does not name a host network anywhere on its site — so we are not going to state it as though Sky had confirmed it. Practically it makes no difference: Sky publishes its own APN, and O2’s values will not work on a Sky SIM. If you also manage O2 lines, see O2 APN settings.

One other trap: Sky publishes a separate article for Sky Mobile in the Republic of Ireland with different instructions. Make sure you are reading the UK one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the APN for Sky Mobile?

The Sky Mobile data APN is mobile.sky, with no username or password. That really is the whole string — no .uk, no .com. The MMS APN is a different string again, mms.mobile.sky.

Why does Sky's own APN help page not show any settings?

Because Sky would rather send the settings to your phone than have you type them. Its main APN article, which is where the sky.com/apn shortcut leads, deliberately contains no values and instead walks you through requesting them from your Sky account. The actual values do exist, but in Sky’s per-device guide portal rather than the help article.

How do I get Sky to send my network settings?

Sign in to My Sky, then go to Product Settings > Mobile > Manage, select your SIM and choose Manage again, then Network and controls > Request network settings. Sky texts or notifies the device and says it can take up to five minutes. If Android asks for a PIN when applying them, the default is 1111.

What are the Sky Mobile MMS settings?

Sky uses a separate MMS profile: APN mms.mobile.sky, MMSC http://185.110.178.96:38090/was, MMS proxy 185.110.178.97 and port 9028, with APN type mms and no username or password. Watch the two IP addresses — the MMSC ends .96 and the proxy ends .97. They differ by one and are very easy to transcribe wrongly.

Do I need a 4G or 5G phone for Sky Mobile data?

Yes. Sky removed its references to 3G in early 2026 and now states you need a 4G or 5G capable device for mobile data. On iPhone, Sky also asks you to confirm 5G auto is selected and VoLTE is switched on under Settings > Mobile Service before you look at APNs at all.

Why can I not change the APN on my Sky Mobile phone?

Sky’s own device guides warn that it may not be possible to change APN settings if the network you switched from has disabled the feature. If the fields are greyed out or refuse to save, that is the likely cause, and requesting the settings from your Sky account is the way round it.
