PAC Code Request: How It Works

What Is a PAC Code?

A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) is a 9-character code that lets you transfer your existing mobile number to a new network. It ensures you keep the same number without any gap in service.

How to Get Your PAC Code

There are three ways to get a PAC code from any UK network:

  1. Text PAC to 65075 — this is the fastest method. All UK networks must respond within 60 seconds with your PAC code via SMS. This method was mandated by Ofcom in 2019.
  2. Call your network — ring customer services and ask for your PAC code. Be prepared for retention offers.
  3. Online account — log in to your network account or app. Most providers have a "Leave" or "Switching" section where you can request a PAC.

How Long Does It Take?

Once you give your PAC code to your new provider, the port typically completes within 1 working day. Your old SIM will stop working and your number will transfer to the new SIM automatically.

Important Things to Know

  • A PAC code is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. If it expires, simply request a new one.
  • Requesting a PAC does not cancel your contract — it only starts the process when you give it to a new provider.
  • Your number will transfer within 1 working day of the port being initiated.
  • You can continue using your phone normally while waiting for the port to complete.
