How to Get a PAC Code

Quick Answer

Text PAC to 65075 from your mobile phone. Every UK network must reply within 60 seconds with your 9-digit PAC code. Give it to your new provider and your number transfers within 1 working day.

What Is a PAC Code?

A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) is a 9-character code that lets you transfer your existing mobile number to a new network. It ensures you keep the same number without any gap in service. PAC codes are free to request and are regulated by Ofcom.

How to Get Your PAC Code (Any Network)

There are three ways to get a PAC code from any UK mobile network:

1. Text PAC to 65075 (Fastest — 60 Seconds)

Send a text message with the word PAC to 65075 from your mobile. Your network must reply within 60 seconds with your PAC code and any early termination charges. This method was mandated by Ofcom in 2019 and works on every UK network.

2. Call Your Network

Ring your network's customer services and ask for your PAC code. Be prepared for retention offers — the agent may try to convince you to stay, but you are under no obligation to accept. They must provide your PAC during the call.

3. Request Online

Log in to your network's app or online account. Most providers have a "Leave" or "Switching" section where you can request a PAC code.

PAC Code by Network

NetworkText MethodPhone Number
EEText PAC to 65075150 (from EE) or 07953 966 250
VodafoneText PAC to 65075191 (from Vodafone) or 03333 040 191
O2Text PAC to 65075202 (from O2) or 0344 809 0202
ThreeText PAC to 65075333 (from Three) or 0333 338 1001

What Happens After You Get Your PAC Code

  1. Give the PAC to your new provider — they will start the porting process on your behalf.
  2. Your number transfers within 1 working day — you can keep using your old SIM until the port completes.
  3. Your old SIM stops working — once the port is complete, your previous SIM is deactivated.
  4. Your old contract is cancelled automatically — you do not need to contact your old network separately.

How Long Is a PAC Code Valid?

A PAC code is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. If it expires before you use it, simply request a new one for free. Requesting a PAC does not cancel your contract — it only starts the switching process when you give it to your new provider.

Can I Keep My Number When Switching?

Yes. That is exactly what a PAC code is for. When you give your PAC to your new network, your existing number transfers to the new SIM. There is no gap in service — your number moves across within 1 working day and you keep the same number you have always had.

PAC Code vs STAC Code

If you want to leave your network but do not want to keep your number, you need a STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) instead. Text STAC to 65075 to get one. A STAC simply ends your contract without porting your number to a new network.

Important Things to Know

  • Requesting a PAC does not cancel your contract — it only starts the process when you give it to a new provider.
  • Your number will transfer within 1 working day of the port being initiated.
  • You can continue using your phone normally while waiting for the port to complete.
  • If you are still in contract, early termination charges may apply — your network will tell you the amount when you request your PAC.
  • Any outstanding device payments will need to be settled.
