A PAC code (Porting Authorisation Code) is a unique 9-character alphanumeric code issued by your current mobile network. It authorises the transfer of your phone number to a new provider. Without a PAC code, you would lose your number when switching networks.

Why Do You Need a PAC Code?

Your mobile number is not tied to a specific network — it belongs to you. The PAC code system, regulated by Ofcom, ensures you can move your number between networks freely. This applies to both personal and business mobile contracts.

How the PAC Code Process Works

1. Request your PAC — text PAC to 65075 from your mobile, call your network, or request online.
2. Receive the code — your network must provide it within 60 seconds (by text) or during the call.
3. Give it to your new provider — they will initiate the port.
4. Number transfers — usually within 1 working day. You will receive a text when the switch is complete.

PAC Code vs STAC Code

A PAC code transfers your number to a new network. A STAC code (Service Termination Authorisation Code) cancels your contract without transferring your number. Use a STAC code only if you no longer need the number.
